Women's History Month

Updated: Mar 9, 2021

Where would any of us be without women? Simply put, we literally wouldn't exist. But for so many other reasons, celebrating women's role and contribution is a reason to celebrate Women's History Month.

Before we get into some great ways to celebrate the month long event, let's address some of the amazing contributions that women before us have given to all women: the right to sit in the front of a bus, the right to vote, more fair wages (still a huge disparity amongst women of different races but we're getting slightly better...), the right to have a bank account separate from our husbands without his permission, and so many other modern day activities that we take for granted.

Ways To Celebrate Women's History Month

While we honer the women that came before us, some great ways to celebrate their achievements and have a bit of fun while doing it, may include: watching movies directed by women, visiting a women's museum, reading boos written by women, watching movies/shows with strong female leads, listening to music written and performed by women, honoring your mom and grandma, teaching our daughters about the achievements of the women in our families and of other notable women.

Learning about the achievements of women throughout history that we all benefit from is particularly a great place to start. Particularly if you have children and want to include them in on the fun. It's important for our daughters to know that we can do anything we set our minds to and for our sons to know that we are capable and can accomplish monumental things.

Women's Organizations

Part of honoring women involves helping women who need it. There are some really great organizations that we can all contribute to that help women in need and in their day to day lives.

Planned Parenthood

Offers a TON of services not related to their most controversial one. The organization offers birth control, general health services, pregnancy tests, patient education, STD testing and treatment and many other services for women's (and men's) reproductive health.

The non-profit organization helps millions of people worldwide and there are many ways that you can contribute to their efforts. Just reach out to find out how you can help https://www.plannedparenthood.org/

Dress For Success

Dress for Success is a global not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

There are multiple ways to get involved with the org, like: donating, volunteering, donating clothes, signing up your company as a donor and a few other opportunities. To learn more, check them out online at: https://dressforsuccess.org/

Women's Shelters

There are so many women who genuinely need help, locally in your area. The best way to find out about women's shelters that you could volunteer or donate to them is to do a quick Google search and find some in your area.

Women's shelters can vary from homeless, domestic violence, drug abuse and more. We all need help sometimes and Women's History Month is a way to pay it forward to women in need.
