I’m going to the beach today! It’s actually the first time I’m going for the entire summer! I almost can’t believe it myself. When you’re chasing a dream and working a demanding full time job and building a brand and product, dating and taking care of your life, well there isn’t always much time for the beach. Needless to say, I’ll take my day at the beach! But what do I bring? So many people ask me, “what do you pack for a day at the beach” or “how much stuff is too much stuff to bring?”.
I like to approach the beach and what’s in my beach bag with two thoughts in mind: 1) can I carry all of the things I want to bring in a chic, easy way? 2) Do I need to bring it? If I answer “no” to either one of those questions, then it’s time to do some soul searching and bag editing.
So what’s in my bag? Let’s take a look:
Camera: There’s a 90% chance I will bring my camera to take a picture of a new swimsuit I’ve developed and to sneak an easy, mini photo shoot into my beach trip. Sometimes this is my camera phone, and sometimes this is my big girl Canon EOS Rebel SL1 DSLR camera (that’s along of initials in that camera name- I never noticed that). This camera takes AMAZING pictures, is easy to use, not so big that I can’t fit it in my bag (pack it properly so you don’t brake it), and is the perfect camera for a new blogger/designer with a website. It allows me to take my own high quality pictures if i can’t find a photographer. I have 2 different sized lenses, for a beach trip I typically pack the smaller of the two. Sunscreen: No trip to the beach or pool is complete without sunscreen. We’ve discussed the benefits of using sunscreen and the different types of sunscreen before. Pack it. It is the most important item in my beach bag. I like to use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. I’m still able to get a beautiful, sun kissed golden brown (my skin is the color of honey), I’m just able to do it in a safe way with my sunscreen. I like Khiel’s b/c it also moisturizes as it protects.

Snacks: No day at the beach or pool is complete for me without some snacks to munch on. I’m ALWAYS hungry, so this is an essential for me. I like to pack snacks/foods that I can eat easily and guilt free. Some of my favs: berries, grapes, bananas, oranges, hummus and pita chips (carrot and celery sticks if I’m being strict with myself), water (Seltzer or flat), wine, and a natural, unsalted trail mix that includes dried cranberries. Note this amount of food is if I’m going with a friend, If it’s just me, I’ll probably just stick to the fruits and water.

I also carry a small cross body and put it inside of my beach bag to carry my essentials like money, keys, i.d.,and chapstick (with SPF of course). I’ll also throw a book in my beach bag and that’s it. For me, anything else I put in my beach bag is a want and not a need. The size of the bag I’m taking typically dictates this. But at a bare minimum, this provides me with everything I need. I don’t bring more than one bag (unless I’m going with kids. I don’t have kids, so the kiddie bag is usually a bag I’m carrying for someone else).
