Living in New York, puts me around some of the best designers in the world. As New Yorkers, we consider this pool of designers “local”. One may see them walking down the street, like the time I bumped into Zac Posen in a bodega in the East Village. Or accidentally brush by them on the street, like the time I brushed shoulders with the now infamous John Galliano, or see them picking up their tea, like the time I first saw my former boss, Norma Kamali on my first day to work for her. My point is they’re everywhere and so is their influence in the fashion industry.
One notable local designer is Donna Karen, Shop DonnaKaran.com
starting her now iconic brand with 7 basic essentials 30 years ago, she has catapulted her brand into an international success. Definitely a business model to follow for any budding designer. Off the heels of a very successful F/W 2014 show, I can’t wait to see her designs stomping up and down Madison Ave. or on the red carpet. She definitely had something to say and showed it through the strong tailored looks, flowy dresses and the endless amount of leg that was present in some of her latest seasons best designs. The best is yet to come for her!
Here are a few of my favs from her February 10th show on Wall St.
*P.S. watching this seasons NY fashion week and now London’s fashion week I learned one thing: start saving your money for thigh high boots for F/W 2014-they will be major! You’ll wear them with long dresses, tailored coats, and sweater dresses. The first and las look below are both with thigh high boots.
