There a many traditions in life: Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas with family, high school prom, the September Vogue issue, and if you’re me or one of my friends, the semi annual sales. Now I’ve touched upon the semi-annual sales before, but we never got to truly explore it. Long story short; every high end brand and retailer has a sale twice a year. Once in the summer starting in June and ending in July and once in the winter, usually starting in December and ending in January. This is the time of year I get anything high end I’ve been eyeing all year. Now there are some tips to navigating these sales, today I’ll share what I know.
Strategy: These sales are big business and you have to approach it with logic and strategy. I usually look at everything (and I mean both on line and in person at multiple retailers), when the sale first starts and just before it ends. The logic here is you get to see all the fresh markdowns when the sale first starts and the major discounts just before it ends.
Online vs in person: I look both on line AND in person. Believe it or not, the same item may be less expensive in person-or on line. You have to comparison shop to get the best deal.
Visit different retailers: Sometimes you can find the same exact item at a better price at a different retailer. DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR A PRICE MATCH. The worst thing they could say is no.
Know pricing: Know what the regular retail price is so you can recognize a savings.
Know your size: This is critical if you’re buying on line. Your size could be sold out if you try to exchange by the time you realize your item doesn’t fit.
Get a buddy: If you have a friend that lives in another city, get her to look for an item you’re not finding in your town; she may have more luck.
Be prepared: Have your money ready and be prepared to buy when you find the perfect item. You have to assume it will be gone if you what or try to come back for it.
Doubt: If in doubt, buy it and figure it out at home. Again, it may not be there if you go back for it. If you realize you don’t like it once you’re at home, simply return it.
Patience: there is a certain amount of patience required to find the crown in the jewel.
