The Weekly Scoop

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. If that’s true, than what role does your eye makeup play in that “window”? Is your window more or less cloudy if the eye make up is non existent or executed poorly? What about your brow shape? Are the curtains for your window, shabby if your brows are? I’m intrigued and moved (personally), by a beautiful eye with flawless make up. One of my favorite eye makeup looks is a smoky eye. But gone are the days where smoky eye, meant only black or charcoal. Now, make up artists and women in the know are executing very artistic smokey eyes with every color of the rainbow. The trick is having the right tools.

TIP: don’t forget that Youtube exists. If you don’t know how to apply your make up to get a smokey eye look, search for it on Youtube. Search for anything you need to learn how to do on youtube for that matter, there is probably someone out there giving a free demonstration.

Here are some general thoughts to keep in mind for your smokey eye:

  1. Start with a clean face. This is key when applying any make up to your face. It just sets the stage for a flawless look.

  2. Play with color. Don’t be afraid to utilize a color that will leather work great with your skin tone or make your eyes radiant.

  3. Address the shape of your brow. It should follow the shape of your brow bone. This means that every women will have a different shaped brow. You shouldn’t try to do a one size fits all approach with something this important. The most beautiful brows are the ones that follow that brow bone.

  4. You will need the proper brushes. Make up is kind of like coloring on skin. If you don’t have the right tools, no amount of technique can make up for that.

  5. Have fun! Play with different looks.

  6. Find a celeb or model whose smokey eye you like, or perhaps the color they used. Then make the look work for you.

  7. Asian women can have a difficult time executing a smokey eye because of the deep fold in their lids. Play with the space above your lid, and add depth with the space you do have in your fold. Seek help for make up artists that specialize in asian skin or search Youtube for a tutorial specific to your needs.
