The Weekly Scoop

The end of summer brings one the opportunity to revamp their routines in beauty, wardrobe, home, just about anything else. In this weeks’ edition of The Weekly Scoop, we’ll take a look at some new beauty trends that will be great to try during this new fall season, bringing change not just to the leaves falling, but your gorgeous mug.

Right now, and thanks to the runway shows still happening globally, we have the chance to see what the trends are, and begin implementing them into our beauty routine. Where do we start? Well ALL beauty routines start with a clean, fresh face. So let’s start there:

Skin: Keep this part of your routine clean and simple 365. You want to cleanse the skin without stripping it, but while removing all the gook, that builds up on it. That is no easy task to tackle. There are, however, products on the market that will do that for you. Like Vichy’s Purete’ Thermale 3 in 1 One step Cleanser. This cleanser removes every speck of grime and eye makeup and hydrates—like cruise control for skin. Great for makeup removal, or for make up prep. Remember, the cleaner, more supple your skin before you apply your make up, gives you long, lasting results. Nic TiP: Always blot your skin dry and never rub or pull your skin. Be gentle. This is helpful to prevent scratches, or pre-mature lines/wrinkles on your face. www.vichy.com

*My flat mate in College was interning at Vichy while we were living in London. We got to try all of their products. They are all amazing, FYI.

Contouring: Pretty much the new “it thing” in beauty, for everyday people. It used to be that women only contoured their face if they were either famous or going to a major event. But now, women are contouring to go to Starbucks. It gives you a very polished, finished face and can slim the face, give the appearance of fuller cheeks, or reduce big cheeks all while adding a glow. What’s new with contouring is how effortless it has become. Old-school contouring—the technique of using shading to enhance and define facial features—used to mean layers upon layers (upon layers) of dark, dramatic makeup, harsh angles, and pretty much everything worn by the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Erase those images from your mind (if you can). The twenty-first century version is all about enhancing cheekbones, slimming your face, and tricking the eye in a believable way. Simply put: “It’s no longer about carving a line into your cheek,” says makeup artist Ashleigh Ciucci. The tools you use here are paramount to getting the right effect. Nic TiP: You will need to blend with a great blender, and you’ll need the right type of brush. Check in tomorrow, for all the tools you’ll need to do a perfectly, countered face.

Dark Lip Color: I’m seeing this trend everywhere and I think I’m finally ready to try it. Cranberries and deep purples are all the rage right now for Fall. They can be intimidating to wear b/c of how severe they are. By keeping the rest of the face more neutral and using the dark lip color to pop, you’ll bring attention not only to your lips, but also to your face. The trick with nailing the dark lip fad, is to find a color that works well for you. You’ll need to keep in mind your complexion here. Whether your skin is fair, medium or dark complected, will make a huge diff in the color you choose. Also, all skin tones should keep their lips well moisturized and exfoliated-save a dark glossy lip for night time glamour and do a dark matte lip for the day. Need help? Go on a field trip and visit the crew at Sephora, they will show you how it’s done to perfection!

*P.S the beauties below, are all contoured. Notice how the cheeks are all defined, the nose is highlighted, with the slightest glow in the center of the chin….
