The Royal Wedding

On May 19th, we were lucky enough to witness one of the most iconic moments in history, the union of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The ceremony was held on Saturday which went against tradition, but then again, there were a lot of things that went against tradition; like the prince marrying a black woman. Meghan wed in a custom Givenchy gown (designed by a woman!), a century-old tiara, and a veil embroidered with the 53 counties in the Commonwealth. It was broadcasted all over for the world to see and it was magical. It was like watching a literal fairytale happen before our own eyes, giving us hope and filling us up with love for the pair and the future of the world. You could tell by how they looked at each other that there was nowhere the pair would’ve rather been than right there at that alter.

With star-studded guests like Amal and George Clooney, Victoria and David Beckham, Priyanka Chopra, Serena and Alexis Ohanian, and much more this wedding was one for the books. But that wasn’t what made it one for the books, it was the representation of black people and black culture shown at the royal wedding. Everyone held their breath waiting to see how Meghan would deliver her wedding and everyone let out a sigh of pride and relief once we got a peek. She included an all-black choir that sang classic songs like Stand By Me and This Little Light of Mine as well as a black bishop (Michael Curry)who delivered a service packed with empowering messages pertaining to the black community.

A beautiful wedding full of love and change occurred in this lifetime and all I have to say is what a time to be alive! I hope the Duke and Duchess of Sussex live happily ever after.
