The Fountain of Youth part 1

My friends are amazing! Seriously, they’re women you’d want to know. Either because of their kindness, or sense of fashion, or in my friend Claudette’s case, her knowledge of skin care (and well her kindness, sense of fashion and beauty). Claudette works as an ARNP at Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery. She’s made a career around skin and skin care health.

Knowing this, I immediately thought of 1,000 questions to ask Claudette, because she definitely knows more than the lady at Sephora does (don’t get me wrong, I adore Sephora, I’m just saying Claudette has more knowledge) So I did ask her. But then that got me thinking, if I have questions then at least one other woman does too. So I decided to interview Claudette for the blog and share her responses. Here’s what we chatted about:

Q: Tie Sides: As a woman’s skin ages, what’s one routine or product that she should be adding to her skincare regimen that she may not be doing/using currently?

A: Claudette, ARNP Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery:

This is a really tough question, because it’s hard to just pick one.  There’s actually 4 must-have anti-aging products. The most important products for anti-aging are:

A: Sunscreen (the most important), should be at least an SpF 30 with UVA/UVB block, applied DAILY, reapply as needed.  Even just a little sun exposure can cause the aging process to accelerate.  ColorScience Sunforgettable sunscreen is my favorite because it’s SPF50, UVA/UVB block, and water resistant.  It’s easy application (powder/brush) is an added bonus, I keep it in my purse/car for easy access.  I’ve used it on my toddlers on vacation and was surprised at how great it worked.

B. Vitamin A, also known as Retin-A, Tretinoin, Retinol, etc.  If I had to choose 1 product that everyone has to have for anti-aging it would be tretinoin.  It exfoliates, improves pores/fine lines, smooths texture, help with evening out skin color.  It stimulates collagen/elastin regeneration.  It is considered the gold standard in prescription topical therapy for improving fine facial wrinkles.

C.    Vitamin C is an important anti-oxidant that will neutralize the effects of damaging free radicals, also helps the improvement of wrinkles, loss of firmness, and brightens the skin.  SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic or Phloretin CF (for oily skin) are the best and most pure Vitamin C serums in the market.

Growth Factors are messenger proteins that play a role in maintaining healthy skin by stimulating collagen regeneration.  They have shown to reduce the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles.  SkinMedica’s TNS Essential Serum is a combination of human growth factors and vitamins/peptides (including Vitamin C) that help smooth skin texture, reverse damage from free radicals, and minimize the appearance of skin discoloration.  There is now a lot more plant based growth factors coming into the market, but human is best.

 D. For busy ladies that want 1 product only, I personally use Environ C-Quence.  It’s a combination of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and anti-aging peptides.  Other than sunscreen/growth factors it covers all of your anti aging needs in 1 bottle.  I don’t recommend this product for those with moderate-significant aging/photodamage.  It’s a great product for maintenance for those that have mild aging/photodamage.  I am a HUGE fan of this skin care line.  ***I still recommend more corrective treatment lines (ex: Obagi NuDerm System) for those w/ moderate-severe aging/photo-damage.
