Reddit. Read it.

Ok, so maybe I’m the last person in the world that joined Reddit. Maybe I’m not…. but I just joined and have no clue what I’m doing on there. Seriously. I don’t even know how to comment. So I read. Today, I was reading the FAQ’s and found a list of acronym’s. You know, to get by with the amount of jargon that is flying around that place. I then realized that some of these same acronym’s find their way in everyday, non Reddit text communications or my emails. In those instances, I still find myself saying, “what does that mean?” Out loud. Then replying to the person that sent it with the same.

I just joined Reddit and found out so many acronym’s you should know.

Reddit is so nice, that they actually give a list of acronyms that may be commonly used. Go figure! So I share Reddit’s list with you, below:

  1. AFAIK means “As far as I know”

  2. AMA means “Ask me anything”

  3. CMV means “Change my view”

  4. DAE means “Does anybody else” or “Does anyone else”

  5. ELI5 means “Explain like I’m 5 (years old)”

  6. FTFY means “Fixed that for you”

  7. IAMA means “I am a”

  8. IANAD means “I am not a doctor”

  9. IANAL means “I am not a lawyer”

  10. IIRC means “If I recall correctly”

  11. IMO/IMHO means “In my opinion” and “In my humble/honest opinion”, respectively

  12. ITT means “In this thread”

  13. MRW/MFW means “My reaction when” and “My face when”, respectively

  14. NSFL means “Not safe for life” (gory or gross content)

  15. NSFW means “Not safe for work” (sexual content)

  16. OP means “Original poster” (the person who started the thread)

  17. [Serious] means “Serious responses only” (commonly used in /r/askreddit and other subreddits now)

  18. PSA means “Public service announcement”

  19. TIL means “Today I learned”

  20. TL;DR means “Too long; Didn’t read”

  21. YSK means “You should know”

MRW as this is one of the first new ones I just learned and I’m using it now? 🙂 lol, see what I did there? But seriously, these are super helpful for me and hopefully you can put them to good use too. Now I just need to learn what a subreddit is? I’ll figure that out tomorrow.
