Dressing in an all black look from head to toe, can easily pull together a simple outfit and make it look more sophisticated than each of it’s independent components. Think a black tank, black jeans, and great pumps. Dressing in monochromatic tones is a great idea, regardless of the main color. Once you find the color that your working with, it’s easy to add a pop of color, fun and never goes out of style.
I like to add a bit of color to my monochromatic look, just to turn the fashion factor up a bit. There is really no rule here when adding pops of color- or pops of print. Now imagine that same all black outfit with red heels, or leopard heels. The pop of color can be the belt, or a scarf, or a jacket if it’s cold outside. I think the most important thing to remember, is that your pop of color now becomes a neutral because of the way that you’re going to be using it. So don’t be afraid of adding the color. It’s a great time to wear a color that you may be afraid to wear or a print that you’ve hesitated about in the past.
Take a look at how I added my pop of color:
The dress is a khaki color dress I got as a gift from a designer named Charles Chang-Lima that I used to work for. Sadly is company is no longer in business, (these are the work perks that I mention). The bag I got from Miu Miu on one of those amazing summer sales I keep talking about. It was such a great find and is one of my better investment pieces. The shoes were acquired at a Ralph Lauren sample sale (one of the best things about having big feet, is that you are the sample size-the shoes usually come from what the models wore down the runway and then the company sells them at a sample sale later on). I opted to keep my jewelry simple, and let my outfit speak for itself, and wore my hair up in a simple crown twist. Voila! Easily, this look is much more elevated than if I chose to wear brown sandals.
