Today I had the opportunity to go and visit one of the Museum of Modern Art’s newest exhibit: ‘Is Fashion Modern?’. When I first heard about it, I was excited to see the exhibit of Calvin Klein slips. I also thought that was the only thing that would be showcased but was sorely mistaken.
From Chanel to Givenchy, a range of clothing were shown from various decades. Along with the many items of clothing and accessories that were shown throughout the exhibit, there were also a few areas showcasing clothing for countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The set up of the exhibit was stunning. Each area made you feel like you were somewhere new and intrigued you more than the last.
They included a mix of vintage, iconic, and modern designers pieces. They had Maison Margiela, CoCo Chanel, Arnold Scaasi, Hubert de Givenchy, Christian Dior, Charles Creed, Calvin Klein, Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, and much more. Visual installations were included, as well, to show the journey of basic t-shirt designs and ads about certain pieces of clothing. Walking around the entire exhibit, I felt like it was a new experience every area I went through.
I can’t even begin to describe everything I saw in this showcase today. There’s literally something there for everyone, whether you’re into fashion or not. I felt overwhelmed, in the best way possible, and still found myself wanting more by the end of it. I would highly recommend going to see it before they shut it down on January 28th of next year!
