Mirror, Mirror on the wall….

I live in NYC. It’s currently 30 degrees outside and feels like 20. But this is the time that I begin to prep my skin and beauty regime for summer time exposure.  Because I live in a cold weather climate, my personal routine for my face focuses on hydration, drinking plenty of water, doing an at home hydration mask once per week and getting a facial every 4-6 weeks. If you live in a warmer climate, and depending on what your personal skin care needs are, I’m sure your routine varies. My point is that you are preparing your skin now, so that it glows during warmer weather months, (not just your face but body too). I once heard that the way you take care of your hair and skin in the winter, shows in the summer. Let’s show ’em what we’ve got!

I am a product junkie! So currently, in my medicine cabinet arsenal of skin care products are things that work for my skin and skin type (I have combination skin, and it tends to be on the dry, sensitive side). Below are a few of my favs. *I warn that I personally focus on skin care and don’t wear too much make up on my skin, (I only use make-up on my eyes and lips on a daily basis, and reserve the use of it on my skin for special occasions).

1. Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser- Simply put, the truth. This gem of a product was named the best natural cleanser at the Natural Health Beauty Awards. This lovely foaming cleanser is enriched with anti-aging botanical extracts like naturally antioxidant-rich African red tea and Vitamin-C. Its soothing, non-drying formula is strong enough to remove makeup, but gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. Regular use will elevate your skin to new levels of clarity and luminosity and it’s good for all skin types. I absolutely love it!

2. Organic or unrefined Coconut Oil- There are many brands to buy, but the most important thing is that it be unrefined or organic. Coconut oil is great for your skin, hair, nails, and you can even cook with it! Coconut oil is a wonderful moisturizer for skin and hair. It has good amounts of  vitamin E (a natural antioxidant), which is very protective. If you are using on the skin regularly, it is best to try to find an organic coconut oil, to reduce the absorption of toxins and pesticides through your skin. I usually just order mine from Amazon when I’m running low on my current supply…. even Carrie Underwood uses it. *This is just for a moisturizer, you aren’t using this for use outside in the sun.

P.S. this also works wonders on hair to help prevent split ends. Just use a dab or so and apply with your hands to the ends of your hair.

3. Plain ‘ole water- Drink it regularly. Thank me later.

4. Ole Henriksen Truth Revealed Super Creme SPF 15– Improves the texture and firmness of your skin. The Omega 3 in it improves micro-circulation for a radiant complexion and promotes happiness. The best thing of all, is The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends this product as an effective UV sunscreen. Go get it.
