Hair color is a thing that so many woman invest time, money and tears on. When it’s good it’s great! When it’s bad, it’s horrible 🙁 There doesn’t seem to be an in between. Personally, I’ve never really been into hair color. I stick with my dark chestnut/black hair. I prefer to play with cut and styles than color. Recently, I’ve been toying around with the idea of adding color to my hair. I have no idea what color I would choose. That got me to thinking, how do women choose a color that works for them? I definitely don’t want to look crazy and choose a color that looks horrible.
So, I’m sharing the results of what I found on my research to perhaps change my hair color……….
Brown: dying your hair brown is one of the safest colors to choose. It works well (apparently) if your hair is already some shade of brown now, or if your hair is damaged. Brown color hides damage well and reflects light well, so the end result will look healthier and shiner than it may already be.
Buxom Brunette
Red: Dying your hair red works great if the hair is in good condition. The trick with red is choosing the tone of red to suit your undertones, not your actual complexion. Red’s can be worn by pale, olive or darker skin tones. Again, focus on the under tones choose deep reds for olives and tan complexions. Choose a a ginger for lighter more pale complexions. Have fun and go bright with dark complexion skin, it will pop your features well.
Racey Red
Blonde: The experts suggest choosing this color if you were blond as a child (the logic is that you already have the coloring for it), AND if you can afford the maintenance. The maintenance for blonde hair can be pricey to keep the hair in good condition. Word to the wise, it is also the color that damages the hair most as bleach of some sort is involved to lighten the hair, where most other colors impart dye to darken it.
Blonde Bombshell
Black: This is a great color for olive or darker skin tones. The only trick with black is you have to commit to it. It is a very difficult color to lift, or remove if you change your mind. So make sure you love the idea of it.
Ravishing Raven
In all color scenarios above, play with highlights as well. They add a nice dimension to your color of choice and allow the end result to look more natural, especially with blondes and reds.
