One of the things I love the most about being a fashion designer is the people it puts me around, the creativity, and the freedom of expression. As the owner of an emerging brand myself (Nager By Nic Hyl), I have to put myself out there. I am the face and the person behind my brand. The great thing about that is being able to meet so many talented creatives that are doing the same thing. Like the designer behind emerging Jewelry Brand, Dani and the Rings.
Recently, I did a market event at Artists and Fleas (I’ll be there every weekend through the summer with my swimwear), where I was selling my swimwear and my small leather goods. I got the chance to meet a jewelry designer named Luchiya. Her brand, Dani and The Rings had me wanting one of everything that she made. Her jewelry is so beautiful in fact that I’d like her to custom make our wedding bands.
So while we were at this market event, I started asking my new favorite jewelry designer about what inspires her and how she got into jewelry making, here’s what she had to say:
Q: What inspires you? A: Dani! She inspires me for everything. To be better in life, a better designer, a better person. (Dani is Luchiya’s daughter)

Q: What made you start Dani and the ring? A: I’ve made jewelry all of my life. I decided that it was more important for me to make my own schedule and be available when my daughter needs me, as pragmatic as that sounds.
Q: What trends are you seeing in jewelry? A: Other than small, dainty jewelry, people want fine fashion jewelry that can give you that cherry on top while feeling like you’re wearing nothing. That fine touch of sparkle that gives you sophistication. Edgy and dainty at the same time.

Q: Where do you see fine jewelry could g in five years? A: I see the dainty trend sticking around. Jewelry should be an accessory to your clothing, you shouldn’t have to create your outfit around it. It’s a no brainer. I think the practiacity of it will make it stay (the test of time).
Q: How do people find you to buy? A: Turnstile at Columbus circle (M-F) and at Artists and fleas almost every weekend. Dani and the rings also makes jewelry for young girls too. Both locations are in the New York area for now.
